Trading Risk Rules One-Pager

Print this or save it. Risk rules keep you in the game long enough to get skilled.

Before every trade

  • Max loss in £ is known before entry.
  • Stop sits where the idea is wrong — not “somewhere hopefully safe.”
  • Position size comes from stop distance × risk percent.
  • If you cannot state the thesis in one sentence, skip.

Account rules

  • Risk about 0.5–1% of the account per trade while learning (pick a number; stick to it).
  • Hard daily loss limit — stop for the day when hit.
  • No trading when angry, exhausted, or chasing a loss.
  • Demo until your behaviour matches these rules.

Forbidden (while learning)

  • Removing or widening stops mid-trade to avoid being wrong
  • Doubling size after a loss
  • Using high leverage “because the account is small”
  • Trading tips with no written plan

Questions

Will these rules make me profitable?

No set of rules guarantees profit. They reduce blow-ups so you can keep learning. Profit needs process plus time.

Where do I learn the rest?
